Paul previews today’s game action and shares his top Draft Kings plays for September 22nd.
Today we have 15 games on the MLB schedule starting at 7:05 pm. As always, double-check your lineup prior to the start of each contest for any late scratches and be sure to check the weather report before game time for potential delays or cancellations. There doesn’t appear to be any games in danger of being postponed today.
While most leagues are now in the final match-ups of the year, we continue to plug along here as if nothing has changed since the beginning of the season. We know a little more than we did six months ago and I know at least for me daily lineup decisions are getting easier and I’m having more success. Today is another day that has a tremendous amount of great options available, so you’ll find a few very cheap options below. You’re going to need them if you want to stack Cubs, Pirates, Rockies, Red Sox, Marlins, Yankees, or any other potentially explosive lineup today. Fortunately the games are all at night, and we can get a good look at the lineups before we lock ourselves in. Good luck!
|Seventeen straight quality starts for Arrieta, but a surprising 4.91 ERA VS Brewers this year. He has a 0.95 second-half ERA.|
|Lackey’s dominance at home continues, as he is 16/16 in QS at Busch this year. Hasn’t beaten Reds in 4 GS this year with 3.33 ERA.|
|Opponents are hitting just .206 vs Salazar in the second half. He’s also 2-0 vs Twins this year with a 2.08 ERA.|
|Ross hasn’t been as dominant at home as in the past, but he has a 1.73 ERA over past 4 starts and a 2.93 mark since AS break.|
|The Angels beat him Sept.12, but McCullers has a 2.00 ERA vs Angels this year in 3 GS. Angels have 3rd worst OPS over past 2 wks.|
|The Phillies are the worst offensive team in the majors with just a .251 wOBA over the past 14 days. Koehler has a 2.97 home ERA.|
|The last time Heston pitched in SD, he one-hit the Padres over 7.1 innings. HH rate going down after a disastrous August.
|Over the past week, only the Phillies have struck out more than the Rays. Has allowed 1 ER or less in 5 of his 8 mlb starts.|
|Estrada has given up 10 HR over his past 7 starts. McCann has 20 HR vs RHP this year and is 7-17 lifetime against Estrada.
|McCann is batting .321 in September and has a .330 AVG for the season against LHP. Quintana quiets LHH but RHH do alright.
|C||Kyle Schwarber||Tyler Cravy
|Schwarber is batting just .179 this month but does have 4 HR. When they met this year, Schwarber went 1-2 with a HR and a BB.|
|Cravy has given up a .403 wOBA vs LHH this year in 7 games. Montero is hot, batting .326 in September.
|The Red Sox knocked Moore around for 8 runs in 5 innings on Sept 12. Ortiz cracked 2 HR against him and is 8-18 lifetime.|
|Harang hasn’t had a month’s ERA under 7.00 since May!! Bour is hitting .294 this month and has 18 HR vs RHP in 307 AB.|
|I sense a pattern here, but the Cubs should go off on Cravy today and Rizzo has a .298/.427/.539 line at home vs RHP.
|When Goldy is less than $5000, particularly at home or against a LHP it’s a good price. He’s 2-5 with a BB and HR this yr vs Wood.|
|Forsythe is excellent against LHP with a .296/.371/.612 line for the year. His OPS is up nearly 100 pts in the second half.|
|2B||Jose Altuve||Hector Santiago
|Altuve is hitting .376 vs LHP this year, while Santiago’s 5.62 second-half ERA still leaves his 3.49 ERA way ahead of his 4.89 xFIP.|
|2B||Josh Harrison||Chris Rusin||$4,000||★★★|
|Rusin has a 6.10 ERA in the second half, with RHH having a 34% HH rate. Harrison generally hits very well against LHP.|
|Nobody is cheap at Coors, but ARam also has had good success against Rusin, going 4-11 with 2 home runs.|
|Longoria has a 35% HH rate against LHP this year to go with a .346/.405/.571 line against them.|
|Bryant is batting .330 since August 1st and has 13 HR in the second half. Might be cost-prohibitive but should produce today.|
|Bogaerts isn’t cheap anymore, but a .384/.430/.486 line against LHP all but assures he’ll have success against Mr 7.00 ERA.|
|Mercer got a couple of hits last night and is batting .294 vs LHP this year. He’s also 2-5 with a HR against Rusin lifetime.|
|SS||Starlin Castro||Tyler Cravy||$3,200||★★★|
|With a pair of hits last night, Castro is now hitting .426 for the month with 4 home runs. Great price for a hot hitter vs a weak SP.|
|Heck, Baez is scoring points even coming off of the bench lately. If he’s in the lineup he’s almost a must-play at this price.|
|OF||Carlos Beltran||Marco Estrada
|Beltran is hitting .302 in the second half, has 13 HR and a .287 AVG vs RHO this year and feasts on Estrada: 6-22 with 3 HR.|
|OF||Mookie Betts||Matt Moore||$4,700||★★★★|
|After last night, Betts is hitting .387 this month. He’s been on base every game since August 23rd.|
|OF||Christian Yelich||Aaron Harang
|Yelich is hitting .351 this month and .330 since the AS game. I can’t see that going down today against Harang.|
|OF||Andrew McCutchen||Chris Rusin
|McCutchen is hitting just .250 in September but has a .349 AVG this year against LHP. It’s pricey for sure.|
|OF||Seth Smith||Jeremy Guthrie
|Left-handed hitters destroy Guthrie with 16 HR in 324 AB this year. Smith is 6-9 lifetime against him (2-3 this year)|
|Morse should get in the lineup against the LHP today and would be a steal at this price. He has a career .810 OPS vs LHP.|
|I’m not sure how he gets in the lineup today, but I’ll be on high alert if he does. For $2,000 he’d be the deal of the day.|
|OF||Angel Pagan||Tyson Ross
|Pagan is hitting .310 this month and just happens to have Ross’ number, going 2-4 with a SB this year; 7-16 with 2 SB overall.|
|OF||Corey Dickerson||J.A. Happ||$3,600||★★★|
|While CarGon and Blackmon are more expensive, Dickerson hits LHP the best out the trio and was only one to get 2 hits yesterday.|
