Paul previews today’s game action and shares his top Draft Kings plays for September 8th.
Today we have 15 games on the MLB schedule starting at 7:05 pm. As always, double-check your lineup prior to the start of each contest for any late scratches and be sure to check the weather report before game time for potential delays or cancellations. There may be issues with the following games:
Cleveland/Chicago – Minnesota/Kansas City – Chicago/St Louis. Good luck!
This is one of the best days for pitchers that I have seen for a while. In fact, I feel reasonably confident enough to start half of today’s starting pitchers. Fortunately there are enough lousy arms as well to give plenty of options when it comes to the bats. Finalizing one lineup is going to be difficult for sure with so many different lineup possibilities. I may need to play a handful of contests today! Here are my top choices to be among those I start. Good luck.
|The Angels have baseball’s worst AVG against LHP this year. And Kershaw is just ridiculous.|
|Harvey has 23 K in his last 18 innings while current Nats are hitting just .212 against him.|
|Four straight QS for Hamels. The Mariners hit LHP very well though with current players .333 vs Hamels.|
|Zimmermann has a 2.82 ERA over past 6 starts and also has a 2.52 ERA at home this year.|
|Iglesias has 33 strikeouts in his last 21 innings pitched and opponents are hitting just .171 against him in the second half.|
|Carrasco had 5 straight QS before landing on the DL. He’s 8-3 with a 2.41 ERA on the road this year.|
|Wacha has thrown 7 straight quality starts and has a home ERA of 2.43 ERA this year, though a 4.50 ERA against these Cubs in ’15.|
||Astros – Indians – Reds – Orioles
||$10,500 – $7,200||★|
|I also like Sonny Gray, Chris Rodon, Francisco Liriano and Masahiro Tanaka. There are arms a plenty today.|
|Hitting .311 against righties, .313 at home and .354 in the second half. 6 of his past 11 games have been multi-hit games. Dickey has a 5.76 ERA vs Boston this year.
|C|| Buster Posey
|Posey’s career slash line at Chase Field is .342/.411/.534 with 7 double, 8 homers and 35 RBIs. He’s 3-6 against Anderson this year.
|C||Russell Martin||Henry Owens||$4,000||★★|
|Owens has been tough on RHH, but Martin has extreme splits with a .925 OPS against LHP.|
|Ortiz has 5 HR in his last 10 games and is 9-28 lifetime against Dickey with 2 doubles and 3 home runs.|
|Belt has cooled off in September after a torrid August. Anderson and his 2nd-half 5.21 ERA should help.|
|Wisler gives up a 1.062 OPS to LHH. Howard does all of his damage against RHP.|
|Murphy is hitting .310 since August 1st and has a solid record against JZ – going 20-59 with 4 2B and 5 HR.|
|Wong is heating up this month after a lousy August. Hammel is falling apart with a 5.19 ERA in 2nd half.|
|Gordon is hitting .333 in September and .324 against RHP this year. Plus, teams run wild on Milwaukee – 4th highest SB total allowed.
|2B||Ben Zobrist||Kyle Gibson||$4,300||★★★|
|Zobrist is hitting .327 in the second half and is 3-7 lifetime against Gibson with a home run.|
|Longoria is making up for a poor 1st half with 9 HR since the break. Has a .973 OPS against LHP.|
|Frazier hits LHPs very well with a .975 OPS. He’s 6-24 lifetime against Liriano with 2 home runs.|
|Moustakas is hitting .299/.366/.475 against RHP this year with 9 second-half HR. Gibson 6.08 ERA last 9 GS|
|It would be neglectful not to make note of Donaldson vs a LHP with his 1.151 OPS against them this year.|
|Some guys can just hit the knuckler; XB is 9-23 lifetime against Dickey. Also hitting .345 in second half.|
|Segura is heating up with 13 hits in his past 8 games and was 2-3 earlier this year against Conley.|
|SS||Jhonny Peralta||Jason Hammel||$3,300||★★★|
|Hammel has given up 14 HR to RHH this year (9 in second half). Peralta is 9-23 with 2 HR against Hammel.|
|Like Donaldson, it’s important to note Tulo’s splits. He’s hitting .354/.400/.552 against LHP.|
|OF||Ryan Braun||Adam Conley
|Braun is hitting .337 with a 1.038 OPS vs LHP this year. He’s 2-2 against Conley this year.|
|OF||Adam Eaton||Carlos Carrasco||$4,000||★★★|
|Eaton is mashing in September, has a .847 OPS against RHP and is 5-12 lifetime against Carrasco with 2 SB.|
|OF||Alex Gordon||Kyle Gibson
|Gordon has come back and picked up right where he left off; extremely hot. Has 1.100 OPS vs Gibson in 20 PA.|
|OF||Jason Heyward||Jason Hammel
|Heyward hits .292 vs RHP and is 9-16 lifetime against Hammel (1-2 with a double this year).|
|OF||David Peralta||Ryan Vogelsong
|Peralta is hitting .314 vs RHP this year and hitting .365 in second half. Also, he’s 7-12 with 1.699 OPS vs Vogelsong|
|OF|| Mookie Betts
|Betts is hitting .343 in August and September and is 6-17 with a double and 2 triples against Dickey.|
|Bautista has 16 home runs in the second half and could get plenty of RBI chances as the Jays hit well good vs LHP.
|OF||Christian Yelich||Taylor Jungmann
|Yelich is on fire, hitting .366 since August 1st. For the year, he’s hitting .301 against RHP.|
|OF||J.D. Martinez||Erasmo Ramirez
|27 of J.D.’s home runs have come against RHP. Erasmo is tough on LHH but has a .281 BAA vs righties. He has 5.87 ERA in last 3 GS and a 4.97 on the road.
|OF||Ender Inciarte||Ryan Vogelsong
|Inciarte is hitting .314 against RHP this year and has bumped his numbers across the board post-AS break.|
