The Field

Winners from the 2018 calendar year were invited giving a nice mix of established golfers as well as up-and-comers ready to make waves. Out of the 37 invited, only 34 will be in attendance with 9 first-timers. The 3 golfers who won’t be making the trip to Hawaii next week will be Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, and Phil Mickelson.

Big Dogs ($9,000 and up on DK)

  • Solid (Cash)
    • Justin Thomas ($10,500) – last season Thomas was 3rd on tour in SG: Total and 4th in SG: Approach. He was first in eagles (per holes) which will come in handy at The Plantation where scoring will be aplenty and he has a win here two years ago.
    • Brooks Koepka ($10,200) – Koepka fought through a wrist injury early on last season but still managed to earn the honor of 2018 PGA Player of the Year. He hits it long, scores well and is an excellent scrambler which should set him up nicely next weekend. Brooks also already has a win this season at The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges.
  • Risky (GPP)
    • Dustin Johnson ($11,000) – DJ didn’t have the best showing at the WGC-HSBC Champions where he finished T30 and only shot one round under par. He was the best scorer on tour last year and is the defending champ here so it would surprise no one to see him bounce back.
    • Jason Day ($9,000) – Day was the second best putter last year and finished 10th in the birdie or better average. In his last 3 times here he hasn’t finished worse than 12th so he has a good track record on this course and he is coming off a T5 and T11 in his last two tournaments.

Value ($7,700$8,700 on DK)

  • Solid (Cash)
    • Bryson DeChambeau ($8,700) – Bryson won the first two legs of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and most recently won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. This will be his 2nd consecutive year playing in this event and he has shown that he is one of the best golfer’s on the planet.
    • Webb Simpson ($8,500) – in his last 4 events Webb hasn’t finished worse than 15th including an 18 outright 3rd place finish at the RSM Classic which was his last tournament. He’s consistently been a high floor guy with his ability to avoid bogeys where he ranked 2nd last year as well as scoring the most eagles on tour last season.
    • Patrick Reed ($8,200) – Patrick Reed is coming off a 7th place finish in the WGC-HSBC Champions and also has a great track record at The Plantation. He hasn’t finished worse than 16th here and has a 1st place finish in 2015 and a 2nd place finish in 2016.
  • Risky (GPP)
    • Cameron Champ ($8,100) – Cameron is the new bomber on the scene and has wasted no time establishing himself as a Champ(ion). He qualified for this event late in the year with a win at the Sanderson Farms Championship and has 3 top 10s in 5 events this season.
    • Gary Woodland ($8,000) – Woodland has 3 top 10s this season as well and is coming off a good stretch of golf. In the FedEx Cup Playoffs he finished better each event and was 11th in the final tournament. He hasn’t been here since 2014 but he finished 13th that year.

Sleepers ($7,600 and under on DK)

  • Solid (Cash)
    • Aaron Wise ($7,500) – Aaron Wise had a breakout year in 2018 during his rookie campaign. As of late he has looked very good as well. This season he has a 10th and a 15th place finish in his only two events and in the Playoffs he finished 5th, 69th, 16th, and 15th, showing that he can compete on the big stage.
    • Keegan Bradley ($7,300) – Last season showed off his iron work and was 2nd on tour in SG: Approach. In his most recent event he ended up with a 6th place finish at the WGC-HSBC Champions and before that he won the 3rd tournament of the Playoffs.
  • Risky (GPP)
    • Billy Horschel ($7,000 DK) – Horschel is a proven winner on tour and has been to this event 3 out of the last 5 years. He crushed it in the FedEx Cup Playoffs where he had two 3rd place finishes and a 2nd place finish in the Tour Championship.
    • Kevin Tway ($6,500 DK) – Kevin Tway won the first event of this season at the Safeway Open to qualify for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He has made his last 7 straight cuts and 22 out of his last 27. Tway also had the 7th most birdies on tour last season with 391 total.
