DFS – Sept 5 – King for the Day

DFS Baseball LogoPaul previews today’s game action and shares his top Draft Kings plays for September 5th.

Today we have 15 games on the MLB schedule starting at 1:05 pm.  As always, double check your lineup prior to the start of each contest for any late scratches and be sure to check the weather report before game time as there may be issues with the following games: Milwaukee at Cincinnati, Cleveland at Detroit. Good luck!

There are some great hitting matchups today and I will likely avoid the top arms, even if it kills me. I will certainly avoid Felix Hernandez who has been scuffling lately as well as Danny Salazar, whom the toothless Tigers have had a lot of success against. I will probably end up playing multiple lineups as our new format seems to encourage it – at least for me. I went with a table again, and hopefully you can find a few gems of your own inside of it. There are plenty of bad pitchers going, and I’ve tried to list a few targets for each of them. Good luck today; now let’s go win some cash!

POS Player Opponent Price Rank
 SP David Price
 Orioles $11,900  ★★★★
Orioles have a 23.5% K rate over last 30 days. Price has a 2.73 ERA in 18 games against them
 SP  Jake Arrieta
Diamondbacks $13,500  ★★★★
Total of 2 ER allowed in his last 6 starts for Arrieta. Vegas has as -220 favorites today.
 SP  Tyson Ross
Dodgers $10,300  ★★★★
Vegas has this game as a pick’em with just 6.5 runs scored. Ross has been very good at home.
 SP  Alex Wood
Padres $8,400  ★★★
Padres aren’t so hot against LHP, striking out 23.4% for the season. Wood has been steady if unspectacular.
 SP Lance McCullers
Twins $9,200 ★★★
24.9% K rate for McCullers and he goes up against the Twins who’ve struck out 26.3% over past 2 weeks.
 SP Nathan Eovaldi
Rays $7,300 ★★
3.07 home ERA for Eovaldi for the year, and holding opponents to a .237 AVG in 2nd half.
SP Shelby Miller, Danny Duffy, Gio Gonzalez
I don’t mind these arms for tournament plays today, but they carry a decent amount of risk.
 C  Blake Swihart
Alec Asher
$4,000  ★★★★
Swihart is hitting .348 in 2nd half and is best against RHP. Asher is making his 2nd start after a rough debut.

 $3,300 ★★★★
Perez is hitting .285 since August 1st and has a 1.068 OPS vs Quintana with 2 HR.
 C  Buster Posey
Chad Bettis
$5,000  ★★★★
Big price tag for Poesy in Coors, but he’s hitting .344 in the 2nd half and is better against RHP.
 1B  Edwin Encarnacion Mike Wright $5,200  ★★★★
EE has 26 HR against RHP this year and should tee off against Wright and the pen today.
 1B Joey Votto
Wily Peralta
$5,700  ★★★
Peralta walked him twice last week when they met. A little nervous it’ll be more of that today.
1B Darin Ruf
Wade Miley
$2,200 ★★★★
Ruf feasts on LHP, hitting .377/.438/.620 for the season. RH have 12 HR against Miley this year.

Chad Bettis $4,000 ★★★★
Belt goes up against Bettis in Coors today, with a 1.365 OPS against the RHP lifetime.

 $3,700   ★★★
Baez had 3 hits including a HR and has just 1 strikeout in 10 PA since his call-up.
2B DJ LeMahieu
Jake Peavy  $4,500   ★★★★
LeMahieu is hitting .345 at home this year and .339 overall in the 2nd half. 2-3 against Peavy last year.
2B Dee Gordon
Bartolo Colon  $4,400   ★★★
Hit .322 in August, hitting .325 against RHP this year. Vs Colon he’s 6-16 (.375)
3B Nolan Arenado
Jake Peavy
$5,000  ★★★★★
Has 31 HR this year against RHP. Already has hit 4 in September!
3B Matt Duffy
Chad Bettis
$4,600  ★★★
Duffy has reverse splits, rocking RHP to a .321/.356/.471 line. Coors won’t hurt.
3B Brett Lawrie
Felix Hernandez
$3,400  ★★
A bargain play today, Lawrie has 4 HR in past 7 games and is 7-19 lifetime against Hernandez
3B Alex Rodriguez
Matt Moore
$4,300 ★★★
A-Rod hit a home run last night and is hitting .285 vs LHP this year. He has a 1.045 OPS vs Moore lifetime.
SS  Addison Russell
Robbie Ray
$3,200 ★★★
Russell hit two bombs last night, hitting .270 with 7 HR in the second half.
SS Andrelton Simmons
Gio Gonzalez
 $3,800 ★★★
Simmons quietly hit .317 in August, and is 7-20 with a 2B, 3B , 2 home runs and a walk against Gio.
SS  Jose Reyes Jake Peavy $4,600 ★★★
Reyes is heating up with 11 hits, 3 SB in last 7 games. He’s a .286 hitter against Peavy who isn’t good on the road.
SS Brandon Crawford
Chad Bettis
$4,600 ★★★
Crawford just returned to the lineup last night, but has 16 HR against RHP this year.
OF Ryan Braun
John Lamb
$5,000 ★★★★
Braun is hitting .323 with a 1.005 OPS vs LHP this year. Hit a HR last week against Lamb
OF Jeff Francoeur
Wade Miley $2,800 ★★★
Hitting .329 with 6 HR in second half. Miley allows RH a .342 wOBA against him.
OF  Aaron Altherr
Wade Miley
$2,900 ★★
I like the Phillies RHH to have a field day today against Miley. Altherr may even chip in a bit.
OF  Michael Brantley
Alfredo Simon
$5,400 ★★★★
Brantley is 10-17 lifetime against Simon with 4 doubles and 3 home runs.
OF Carlos Gonzalez
Jake Peavy
$5,000 ★★★★★
Gonzalez hit another home run last night and now has 23 home runs in the second half!!!
OF  Mookie Betts
Alec Asher
$4,900 ★★★
Betts is hitting .327 in August and September. Asher gave up 2 HR to RHH in his first big league start.
OF Carlos Gomez
Ervin Santana
$3,800 ★★★
Gomez has a .389 lifetime average against Santana and I’m a sucker for him when his price is low.
OF Christian Yelich
Bartolo Colon
 $3,900 ★★★★
Yelich is on fire, hitting .615 in September after a .333 AVG in August. He’s 6-18 lifetime against Colon.
OF Carl Crawford
Tyson Ross
$2,200 ★★★
Crawford has a 1.365 OPS against Ross lifetime and is hitting .328 since August 1st.
OF Alejandro De Aza
Chad Bettis
$3,900 ★★★
De Aza was brought in for just this reason, to hit RHP. At Coors, VS Bettis should be a piece of cake.
