MLB DFS Plays 8/16

These are my 3 Daily DFS picks for August 16th, 2018

Kole Calhoun – Los Angeles Angels OF – Owned 62% – Salary $4,400

After getting off to a horrendous start, Kole Calhoun has had a torrid hot streak going on since July and has not slowed down. Tonight, he faces the Rangers and Ariel Jurado on the road in what should be a perfect matchup for him. Calhoun had crushed righties in the power department this season with 13 homers, 25 XBH, a solid .218 ISO, a .305 wOBA, and 42% hard-hit rate. On the other hand, Jurado has struggled in his 4 starts this season, allowing 13 runs in only 20 innings, he has especially struggled versus lefties, allowing 6 runs and 2 homers in only 8 innings, along with a 1.92 WHIP, and .294 BAA. Lastly, Calhoun has hit a lot better on the road in 2018, with an OPS nearly 100 points higher than his home OPS.

Josh Bell – Pittsburgh Pirates 1B – Owned 46% – Salary $4200

Bell has hit well since the All Star break, batting .296/.387/.519 with three homers and 8 RBI’s in only 15 games (due to a minor injury). Today, he faces Jon Lester and the Cubs at home, in what should be a very offensive matchup. A switch-hitter, Bell has fared better against lefties than righties in 2018, posting a .838 OPS, 136 wRC+, and .356 wOBA. Bell also boasts great splits versus Lester on the season, batting .357 with a homer and 4 RBI in 14 at-bats. Lester, on the other hand, has mightily struggled since the all-star break with a 10.32 ERA in 5 starts. His most recent start was one of his worst ever, as he allowed eight runs in only 2.2 innings. Lester has also allowed 16 homers to the right-handed hitter this season. Expect Bell to ring the bell tonight in the Steel City.
