DFS – September 20 – Decisions, Decisions

DFS Baseball LogoPaul previews today’s game action and shares his top Draft Kings plays for September 20th

Today we have a full slate of games on the MLB schedule starting at 1:05 p.m.

As always, make sure to check your lineup before game time for any last-minute scratches and keep an eye on the weather forecast, although there doesn’t appear like there will be any issues.

This is one of those days where there really are too many options. I count 8 games that Vegas has with an 8.5 or higher over/under meaning that there should be plenty of offense today. There are so many good values at some positions that there is just no way I can pick just one, meaning I’ll be playing multiple contests. I’m pretty set in my mind with Strasburg and Teheran as my two starting pitchers, but I like Lester and the others I have listed as well. There are some gems in this chart and, at least for me, the trick will be putting the right pieces together.

POS Player Opponent Price Rank
 SP Stephen Strasburg
 Marlins $10,400  ★★★
Opponents are hitting just .169 against Strasburg since his return from the DL. Has a 6.92 ERA vs Marlins in 3 GS this year.
 SP Julio Teheran
Phillies $7,700  ★★★★
The Phillies are collapsing, striking out 27.5% of the time with just a .259 wOBA over the past 2 weeks.
SP Jake Odorizzi Orioles $8,900  ★★★
Odorizzi is great at home, holding batters to a .210 AVG. He’s 2-0, 2.84 ERA vs Orioles this year.
 SP Kevin Gausman
Rays $5,600  ★★★
The Rays’ bats have cooled lately, hitting just .226, with a 27% K rate in past week. Gausman coming off 6 IP SHO vs Bos.
 SP Aaron Nola
Braves $8,200 ★★
Coming off a rough start, Nola should enjoy getting back to Atlanta. He’s 2-0 vs mlb’s worst hitting club with a 1.50 ERA
 SP Jon Lester
Cardinals $10,300 ★★
The Cardinals are baseball’s worst hitting team vs LHP this year. Lester has a 0.85 ERA in 3 GS vs Cards this year.
 SP Anthony DeSclafani
Brewers $7,900  ★★
One batter short of 9 QS in his last 10 games, DeSclafani is also much better on the road. Two-hit the Brewers earlier in yr.
 C Yan Gomes
John Danks
$3,000  ★★★★
Gomes has struggled against LHP this year, but hit .331 LY against them. He’s 5-10 lifetime against Danks with 4 doubles.
 C J.P. Arencibia
Kevin Gausman
 $3,600 ★★★
Arencibia is hitting .444 against RHP this year and is 3-5 with a 2B and 2 HR vs Gausman, including 1-1 with a HR in ’15.
 C Russell Martin
Rich Hill
 $4,100  ★★
Hill has allowed just 1 hit in 7 innings this year, but the Jays RH bats should give him a rude awakening today.
 C Miguel Montero
Carlos Martinez
$3,200  ★★★
Montero is batting .341 in September, and has a .856 OPS in the second half. He’s also 2-6 vs Martinez this year.
 1B Jesus Montero
Derek Holland
$2,200  ★★
I usually don’t punt 1B, but it’s an option today with Montero hitting .294 in Sept and being 3-6 with a 2B vs Holland this yr.
1B Justin Morneau
James Shields
$3,400 ★★★★★
A great value for Morneau who’s batting .303 since his return and is 17-42 with 4 home runs against Shields.
1B Eric Hosmer
Alfredo Simon
$4,400 ★★★★
LH bats crush Simon to a .504 SLG, while Hosmer hits .317/.390/.497 vs RHP. He’s also 3-6 with 2x2B and 1 HR vs Simon
1B Joey Votto
Ariel Pena
 $5,600  ★★★
Pena has a 24% BB rate to left-handed hitters this year. You can guess how this will play out for Votto.
2B Cory Spangenberg
Kyle Kendrick
 $3,100  ★★★★
There may not be a worse pitcher on the planet than Kendrick in Colorado, while Spangenberg is hitting .296 in 2nd half.
2B Anthony Rendon
Justin Nicolino
 $4,100  ★★★
Rendon is hitting .311 in September, while hitting .333 for the season vs LHP. Nicolino has a 5.21 xFIP this year.
2B DJ LeMahieu
James Shields
$4,100  ★★★★
LeMahieu is 5-10 against Shields this year and is hitting .333/.396/.437 at home for the season.
2B Jedd Gyorko
Kyle Kendrick
$3,300  ★★★
Kendrick is worse against LHH, but even right-handers slug .523 against him. Gyorko has 11 second half HR.
3B Yangervis Solarte
Kyle Kendrick
$4,000  ★★★★
Solarte is hitting .354 this month with a .923 OPS. He’s better against RHP and is even 3-9 with a HR vs Kendrick this year.
3B David Wright
C.C. Sabathia
$4,100 ★★★★
Wright is hitting .414 vs LHP this year while CC has given up 23 HR and a .862 OPS against RH-hitters.
3B Nolan Arenado
James Shields
$4,800 ★★★★
Arenado owns James Shields, hitting .588/.611/1.176 in 18 plate appearances. (6-12 with 2 HR this year in there)
3B Josh Donaldson
Rich Hill
 $6,100 ★★★★
With the other good 3B options, I may not want to pay Donaldson’s price, but he hits .373/.433/.804 at home vs LHP.
SS Xander Bogaerts
Mark Buehrle
$4,200 ★★★
Bogaerts hit a home run yesterday and is hitting .378 vs LHP this year. He’s also hitting .343 overall  in the second half
SS Brandon Crawford
Jeremy Hellickson
$3,400 ★★★
Hellickson should be just what Crawford needs to break out of his little funk. He’s 4-5 with a BB against him this year.
SS Wilmer Flores
C.C. Sabathia
$3,300 ★★★
Flores is batting .316 with a .612 SLG vs LHP this year. With C.C.’s trouble vs RHH, this is a great match-up.
SS Carlos Correa
Aaron Brooks
$4,800 ★★★
Brooks has a 12.41 ERA this month with RHH mashing him as well as LHH. Correa could do some real damage today.
OF Jackie Bradley Jr.
Mark Buehrle
$4,000 ★★★
Bradley has insane reverse splits, hitting .389/.459/.685 vs LHP this year, including a 2-2 effort against Buehrle.
OF Rusney Castillo
Mark Buehrle
$3,300 ★★★
Castillo is batting .347 with a .885 OPS against LHP this year. Buehrle has a 4.76 ERA over his past 7 starts.
OF Ryan Raburn
John Danks
$2,500 ★★★★
Raburn crushes LHP, hitting .319/.399/.577 this year. He’s 17-50 with 4 HR lifetime vs Danks including 3-8, HR this year.
OF Mark Trumbo
Derek Holland
$3,700 ★★★★
Trumbo is 14-44 with 5 HR lifetime against Holland and is hitting .280 with 10 HR in the second half.
OF Juan Lagares C.C Sabathia
 $2,600 ★★
Lagares is hitting .400 this month and has a line of .281/.333/.456 vs LHP this year. Great value here.
OF Corey Dickerson, Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez
James Shields
$3,600-4,400 ★★★★
Really good values for these struggling Rockies LH-hitting OF. Shields struggles against LHH and on the road.
OF Wil Myers, Justin Upton, Matt Kemp
Kyle Kendrick
$5,100-5,800 ★★★
Kendrick is indiscriminate as far as who lights him up. There’s very little chance you could stack these 3 though.
