Paul previews today’s game action and shares his top Draft Kings plays for September 19th.
Today we have 15 games on the MLB schedule starting at 1:05 pm. As always, double-check your lineup prior to the start of each contest for any late scratches and be sure to check the weather report before game time for potential cancellations. There doesn’t appear to be any games at risk of postponement though. Good luck!
Today is an interesting day for DFS! There are ten starting pitchers priced at $9,000 or higher but most carry significant risk. There are also quite a few potentially high-scoring games, particularly Cincinnati at Milwaukee, Philadelphia at Atlanta, Boston at Toronto, KC at Detroit, Seattle at Texas and San Diego at Colorado. It will take some fancy maneuvering to fit top pitching into your lineup while maximizing the offensive opportunities today. I plan on doing just that though, so I’ve included more than a fair share of cheap options to use today. I like days like this because they really make me dig deep and want to win even more. Here are some of the better options for today:
|Kershaw at home is just ridiculous, allowing opponents to hit .174/.215/.253 against him. 19 dominant starts in last 20 GS.
|SP|| Jordan Zimmermann
|I always bet on JZ at home and he rarely lets me down with a 7-3 record and 2.43 ERA. Has a 2.25 ERA in 3 GS this year vs Marlins.
|SP|| Noah Syndergaard
|Braves have just a .290 wOBA over the past 2 weeks. Noah had a rough August (4.59 ERA but xFIP was 3.33)
|SP|| Patrick Corbin
|Corbin has quality starts in 6 of his last 7 games. He shut out these same Giants on Sept. 9th over 6 innings of work. Little pricey.
|Carrasco struck out 9 his last time out, but the ChiSox beat him up his game prior. Sox are 5th best hitting team over past 2 weeks.|
|In his last 6 starts, Rodon is 3-2 with a 2.19 ERA averaging nearly 7 innings per start. THIS is the Rodon we dreamed about.
|As inconsistent as he’s been, he’s striking out more, walking less with a lower xFIP in the 2nd half. Pitched welll against Twins this yr.|
|The D’Backs smoked Leake two weeks ago, but he did induce 12 GB and struck out 5 in 5.2 innings. D’Backs are scuffling.|
|Norris is a .281 hitter against LHP, while Flande has given up a .560 SLG to RHH this year. Coors doesn’t hurt either.|
|There are no good bets against Stewart, but as a punt play, Stewart is 7-14 lifetime against Kershaw with a walk.|
|Swihart is batting .316 in the second half with most of his damage against RHP. Dickey has a 2.98 ERA but 4.49 xFIP in 2nd half.|
|C||Josh Phegley||Scott Kazmir
|Phegley is batting .276/.323/.466 against LHP this year. He also has a 41.7% Hard Hit rate in September.|
|Rizzo is 4-8 with a HR against Wacha this year and has hit 24 home runs against RHP this year.|
|Ortiz is a lifetime .290 hitter against Dickey with 3 HR including 1 this year. He’s also hitting .339 with 20 second-half HR|
|Morales has a .858 OPS in the second half, hits .300 against LHP and is 5-7 against Boyd this year already.|
|Rockies should have a field day against Erlin, and Rosario makes for a nice value if he plays. Career .314 hitter vs LHP.|
|Gyorko has 4 HR against LHP in just 101 AB this year, while Flande has given up 14 HR in the second half alone.|
|The Cubs destroyed Wacha when they met last and Baez chipped in a pair of doubles in 2 at bats.
|2B||Logan Forsythe||Wei-Yin Chen
|Forsythe is hitting .297 with 10 HR against LHP this year in just 148 AB. Has a .400/.464/.920 line against Chen with 3 HR|
|LeMahieu hits LHP and RHP the same, but at Coors he hits LHP to a .373/.439/.441 line. He’s also 4-7 lifetime against Erlin.|
|Rendon is hitting .345 against LHP this year and is at .333 for the month of September.|
|Donaldson has a 1.237 OPS at home against LHP this year. He’s hitting .313/.390/.614 in the second half with 18 HR.|
|It’s like DraftKings forgot how good Longoria is against LHP, with a .341/.403/.550 line for the season.|
|2 home runs yesterday for Castro and he’s 9-19 lifetime with a pair of homers against Wacha. Good value at this price.|
|Another value play if he gets in today’s lineup. Adames is hitting .346 in 12 September games and was typically better vs LHP.|
|Reyes has disappointed in Colorado thus far, but gets a decent price for a great match-up today.
|OF||Lorenzo Cain||Matt Boyd
|Big price for Cain, but he’s hitting .345 with a .983 OPS vs LHP and is 3-8 with a HR vs Boyd this year.|
|OF||David Peralta||Mike Leake
|Peralta was 2-3 when these two met up this year, and with his .904 OPS vs RHP I expect more of the same today.|
|OF||Anthony Gose||Edison Volquez
|Gose is hitting .333 in September and has good success against RHP. He’s also 4-7 with a 1.810 OPS with a SB vs Volquez.|
|OF||Tyler Collins||Edison Volquez
|Collins is even hotter than Gose, hitting .346 this month. He was 2-5 against Volquez when they met earlier this year.|
|OF||Ben Zobrist||Matt Boyd
|Also eligible at 2B, Zobrist is batting .326/.412/.512 vs LHP. He went 5-7 with a walk when facing Boyd this year.|
|Trumbo is hot, hitting .274 with 10 HR in the second half. He’s 4-9 with a HR this year against Hamels.
|OF||Nelson Cruz||Cole Hamels
|Cruz is hitting .357 against LHP this year and was 2-5 with a HR when he faced Hamels this year. Has 15 HR in last 145 AB.|
|OF||Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Wil Myers||Yohan Flande
|Flande gets hit hard by right-handed hitters and this trio from San Diego could do a lot of damage today.|
|OF||Corey Dickerson||Robbie Erlin
|Dickerson doesn’t hit LHP well, but at this price at home and against a weak LHP (who he was 1-1 against LY) it’s a solid play.|
|OF||Ryan Raburn||Carlos Rodon
|As much as I like Rodon today, I can’t refuse this bargain price for LHP-killing Raburn. (.317/.396/.583 line this year)|
